World AIDS Day
Social Responsibility Making a Difference AIDS
Katutura Stadium 2014
Observed on 1 December each year, World AIDS Day is dedicated to raising awareness of the global pandemic that affects millions of women, men and children. Despite ongoing efforts to fight the epidemic, Namibia is ranked the 6th country in the world worst affected by HIV/AIDS, with an adult prevalence rate of 13.3% (UNAIDS 2012). This shocking statistics bring to light the devastating effects of this unrelenting virus, given that Namibia is a sparsely populated country, with a population of just 2.3 million people. As such, the importance of commemorating World AIDS day in Namibia cannot be overemphasized, as it also provides a platform to improve knowledge about the disease, support the charities and groups that alleviate sufferers’ burdens and take care of the families affected.

As part of its social responsibility, ErongoMed saw an urgent obligation to host the 2014 World AIDS commemoration event and the Namibian Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS)). Namibia has subscribed to the global World AIDS Day targets / UNAIDS Strategy of “Getting to Zero by 2015” Hence the theme of the event is“zero new HIV infections, zero AIDS-related deaths, zero discrimination.”
The NDF marching band kicked off the day by accompanying the walking crowds from the Soweto market to the Katutura Multipurpose Youth Centre. Physical Active Youth prepared weeks in advance to accommodate the children.
As such, we are requesting financial support to promote Bank Windhoek on World AIDS day. Additional monetary support, especially to the benefactors like orphanages, would also be highly appreciated and go a long way to making a quality and successful event.
I hope that you are interested in joining our efforts, to show respect, admiration, and support for those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. Simple events like this can go a long way to encourage positive attitudes to keep our community healthy, and will certainly impact positively on the funders.

Thank you in advance for giving this your consideration.
